Twin Rivers Field-Testing English 3D
Twin Rivers is field-testing a comprehensive language intervention program at seven secondary school sites to address the needs of long-term English language learners. English learners are students whose primary or home language is a language other than English and who need special assistance in order to engage in learning.
The new curriculum is called English 3D. If approved for the 2018-2019 school year, each student will receive instruction and materials based on their learning needs.
According to Alberto Becerra, Coordinator of Twin Rivers' English Learner Department, the district has nearly 6,000 English learners from all over the world, including Mexico, Afghanistan, Russia and Syria. The goal is to get students reclassified as fluent English proficient before they become long-term English learners.
Becerra has been talking to parents about English 3D at English Language Advisory Committee (ELAC) meetings. The District English Language Advisory Committee (DELAC) will meet at 9 a.m. Thursday, April 5, at the District Office.
